Combining heuristics and segmentation to personalize with maximum efficiency

The research

A key weapon in the mind’s efficiency arsenal are heuristics: cognitive short-cuts we make use of every day. These intuitive mental algorithms help us generate approximate answers to problems which we as professionals can leverage in the pursuit of the ideal digital experience. But how can these be put to work in ecommerce?

We collected data from over 41 million visitors with over 120 million page views, across 37 US based retailers, many of which had an international presence. From this data we formed 5 essential business segments against which we have presented typical user journeys against which heuristic principles can be deployed.
